Why Citizens For a Quality Judiciary?
In Texas, we have partisan elections of judges, and in some years, we in major counties have over sixty contested judicial races. The coverage on these races in the major media is non-existent. The bar polls are not scientific or objective as attorneys can vote whether they know the choices or not.
CQJ was formed to help provide the necessary information for voters. We have good judges and poor judges and CQJ’s goal is to assist in the election of well-qualified judges with real world experiences as detailed in our standards.
Our overriding concern is that we do not elect judicial candidates who have to learn their court and its laws on the job. The lack of real experience threatens the ability of our justice system to provide equal and fair justice under the law. This makes going to the court house like going to Las Vegas and betting.
